For my knowledge:
1. How to check for a bent crane ?
2. What problems does a bent crane cause ?
3. Method for straightening a bent crane ?

Jimmy,

Buy a copy of "The S&W Revolver, a Shop Manual", by Jerry Kuhnhausen, it will answer all such questions you have been asking lately. He has several pages discussing this issue, it cannot realistically be answered in the context of this forum.

There are several symptoms depending on precisely how the yoke is sprung. It can cause latching problems, timing issues, etc. How to fix it? Buy the book. How to repair is entirely dependent on how the yoke is sprung!

Good Afternoon, Alk8944:
Thank you for the advice.
I located and ordered the S&W Shop Manual from Brownells.

I STRONGLY urge you to let a person with a lot of revolver experience do this work. You can do it yourself, you can also make yourself crazy trying to do it and can make it worse.

Real simply it causes the cylinder to rotate ecentric, cylinder bind, difficulty opening the cylinder ect. You certainly need an alignment rod for the correct frame size to start.
