Shooter's choice lead solvent
Does anyone use this stuff? Doesn't seem to do much of anything. Should I let it sit in the bore for a day?

we've been using it for some time now, ever since they changed the name, made locally here in Middlefield,Oh know the family, and seems to work for us, specially on shotguns, cuts plastic fouling better.....still gotta scrub, and still gotta use the proper sized brushes, and yes, at times we too have "let it set", don't use all the GOOD stuff we used to have that was on all the 'Haz Mat' charts....

I don't think I would leave it in the bore overnight. It's not as caustic as 7.62 solvent but it will cause some corrosion if left long enough. It is better on rifles and shotguns than on handguns. Mainly because lots of people shoot lead in handguns and Shooters Choice is not designed for lead. The only thing I know of that disolves lead is mercury. Since that's not anything I would use, I like Lewis Lead removers. They work good for first application in barrels and all chambers, then clean normally, if lead is the problem.

What Gun are you using it on???
I used to have to clean a bunch of Stainless 22 pistols from time to time. I thought it "helped" but it was no silver bullet. Getting the lead out of those 22's was a bit of a chore. I would let them soak for fifteen minutes sometimes.
I never let any solvent sit for more than that no matter what the manufacturer says.

On stainless steel guns, the 50/50 mix of household hydrogen peroxide/white vinegar works very well in 5-15 minutes.
You should be aware of the fact that this creates lead acetate, which is much more bioavalable than metallic lead.
Wear rubber gloves, don't eat it, don't snort it, wash hands after handling, yada, yada, yada.

That's a good question. In the old days, I ran it down the drain into the septic tank.
These days, if I were to go back to that method, I'd probably drain the electrolyte from an old automotive battery and use the old battery as a storage container for the lead acetate.
Then, when it got full, take it to the recycler.
Of course, the ancient Romans used it as a sweetener.
I don't recommend eating lead sugar. I hear lead poisoning can occur.
I also hear that lead poisoning is bad. I don't plan on testing that theory.
Of course, I suppose you could dispose of the lead acetate in the exact same manner you use to dispose of any lead fouling you clean from a gun.
