Default Post war K22 "How to book"

I am looking for a book that will explain how to break down and reassemble a K22 Masterpiece from 1948. It is a 5 screw revolver. I don't want to take ANY CHANCES on messing up this revolver. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Bob

Hi Bob I don't have it but have heard very good things about this one.

"The S&W Revolver: A Shop Manual" Book by Jerry Kuhnhausen

The book above is one of the best. But don't look for just a book on a K22, look for books on any frame size, especially for the post war K frame.

weatherby has made a great suggestion but please be sure to use the correct hollow ground, proper fitting screw drivers to remove the side plate screws and any other screws for that matter. The Cylinder Release Screw has been Historically a tough screw to remove if your revolver has never been taken apart and cleaned and lubricated. Read and proceed carefully, soak any tough to remove screws in "Kroil" or "Break Free CLP" and be patient. Good Luck!

Yes, the Kuhnhausen book is terrific. As an alternative, some years ago (late 1960's?) the NRA published a compendium of its 2-3 page exploded view drawings and assembly instructions for a number of pistols and rifles. They were from the 1950's and 60's issues of The American Rifleman. The S&W Military and Police and the K38 Masterpiece are among them. They are abbreviated assembly instructions, but might be a good start. If you send me an e-mail address, I will scan and send either the pages for either one (or both) to you. (P.S. I don't know exactly when the book was published, but the NRA dues were $5 a year, $12.50 for 3 years, or $100 for a lifetime membership.)

There's that "patient" word again.
That gets used ALOT on this forum, any ideas where I can find some of that stuff?

In all seriousness thank you all for the advice.

Default Since you asked

Try Brownell's Gunsmith Screw Drivers, they make a wide range of sizes, they are of top quality and if you do break the tip (yes, some screws are tough to remove) Brownell's just ask which number it is and sends you another to replace the broken one, no charge!

For the record: I had tried a set of "Gunsmith" screw drivers from another well known supplier, broke a tip and was told that there was no further warranty. There are many quality made screw drivers available so please do not think I represent Brownell's, no affiliation but do appreciate the service I've received in the past.

I have a Brownells S&W Armorers set, 3 or 4 blades. Well, the finest blade, for the older side plate screws when I went up against a really tight screw, it "twisted" the tip. I picked up my full set of Wheeler, from Midway, and they don't twist.
I would recommend going on line and watching video's on S&W revolver dis-assembly. Keep in mind nearly all S&W revolvers K and N are very very similar. J Frame have several differences. The best video I saw was the Jerry Miculek video on trigger job. It is pretty much step by step and goes through the entire dis-assemble. But, Please make sure you have a good set of Screwdrivers and make sure the blade fits the width and length of the slot.
