Hello everyone, new guy to the forum but have been shooting M&P's for a while. New M&P 45 and a 9 pro, which I have been shooting for about 3 years now.
I just got the M&P 45 4.5, and having a lot of light strikes, I'm talking 4 to five per mag. When inspecting the gun I noticed that when the slide is locked back, the striker unit is not always behind the striker plunger. This is happening probably 50% of the time, the other 50% it sets behind it. Also the striker is offset to the left side a bit. When bringing the slide forward it is catching on the frame and pulling the striker behind plunger the 50% of time it is not set. There are already marks of were the metal is hitting the side of the striker channel on the rear of the slide. On my 9 pro it is straight and travels the channel freely.
Also a note of difference between my 45 and 9 pro. When the slides are off or in slide lock and the strikers are set behind the plunger. If I press the plunger in on my 9mm nothing happens, i need to move the striker myself to bring it forward. On my 45 if I press the plunger, it springs forward on its own into I would assume it's resting position in front of the plunger.
Does any of this sound like what could be causing the light strikes?
