Starting with J frame, K and N frame how many grip frame
variations of these are there? Not interested in pre J, L, and
larger.

Short answer - Like VM said, 2 of each.

Long answer - 2 of each plus variations.

Standard J round and square.
J safety models like 40 and 42 use their own grips.
Origional Centennial models would have come with "high horn" grips up to a certain date that wouldnt fit standard exposed hammer model Js.

Standard K round and square.
M&P airweights, m12s had a slightly thinner frame and used a unique set of grips to properly fit those models.

L frames use K frame grips, none are unique to fit specific L frames that I am aware of.

N frame standard round and square.
I've never needed to research it, but I understand that at least some of the Sc N frames have a different radius behind the trigger guard, and standard grips fit, but not properly.

Two each on J frames, four on K frames and two on the N frame models. L frames use the same as the K frame guns and don't forget the 24-3s that used K frame round butt stocks.

Can the square butts be converted to round by grinding the correct profile?
