Thought this info might be of use to those who fit and adjust S&W K, L, and N frame cylinder stops on a regular basis.
I discovered this detail when trying to "let out" a stop. The stem of the stop just behind the top of the ball has a small ledge in front of the adjustment step. Because this material often contacts the frame instead of the actual "step" itself, it may be necessary to remove a small amount of the material from the top of this stem in order for the adjustment of the step to be realized....or, in other words, for the stop to actually come up enough to be in contact with the adj. step.
In some frames, movement and the ability of the stop to "hold" properly can often be improved just by the removal of a small amount material from the top of the stem.....making further alteration and filing adjustment step unnecessary.
