Barrel shortening...
I inherited a M29-4 with one of those long 8 3/4 - inch barrels on it and a scope. I don't "handgun hunt" and I'd like to remove the scope and shorten the barrel to 6-inches. This revolver also has the full underlug barrel. Comments and advice please on who can cut the barrel down and re-attach the front sight. Does the SW factory do this kinda work? I assume this is a major undertaking...

I am a "Non-Expert" but consider changing to a 6" barrels thus keeping the original 8 3/8" barrel.

I agree with buying the barrel you want. It will cost you about the same to buy a barrel in the size you want as to cutting the old barrel down. Then if you want to sell the gun later you have the original barrel in its correct length.Or you could sell the original barrel to help with the cost of the new one.

If you have no particular attachment to the 8" you might consider selling or trading the long tom to get the shorter tube.

I kinda like the SDM package, looks like they do some nice work...gotta decide if I wanna drop $250+ on this bad boy. Being that my revolver is a blued M29, I wonder if it would have to be re-blued?

The most financially efficient way to do this is to sell the gun you have and buy the gun you want. Second would be to re-barrel and third and worst is to shorten the barrel-especially if it is a full underlug type barrel. As nice as the work SDM does, it will never be OEM.

Almost always, the best solution is to sell the one you have and buy a similar one which is more to your liking.
