Polishing the feed ramp
What materials/ tools are needed to do it?
What's the step by step procedure?
I'm interested in doing it to my semi-autos.

Are you having FTF problems? Or do you just want to do it on principle? I'm sure you could use a Dremel tool or emory cloth working from most coarse to finest. Bare in mind that you will most likely void any warranties on the guns.

No FTF problems...might want to use it to clean small areas of guns.
Thanks.

I would suggest leaving your feed ramp alone unless you are having feeding problems. If you are having feeding problems maybe a good gunsmith is in order

I would agree with RILEY....many more barrels have been ruined by grinding/polishing than by shooting I'm afraid.
Proper maintenance, cleaning an lubrication are key, along with an in spec/OEM recoil spring.

HAND polishing, can change that "clunk", when chambering, to a soft "snick". I love this change, and lightly polish every pistol I own.
I do NOT use a dremel.

Which particular blend/product of Flitz do you use? What type of cloth/material do you use to do the polishing?
Care to give us more detail, in other words? Thanks!

Flitz metal polish and DO use a Dremel. I use a soft round wheel - maybe cotton or something, I don't know what to call it, but it is not metallic or abrasive.
The speed of the Dremel makes it a slick job with no abuse to the metal. Is like hand polishing with a cloth but faster and smoother.

The first thing I do on any newly purchased auto is disassembling it, a GI cleaning. Polishing the feed ramps if there not polished. I remove the blushing or nickel finish. I polish the ramp to a mirror finish. I do not change the angle of the feed ramp.
I have a dremel with a soft drum disk that fits perfectly in the ramp. I add some Simi chrome polish and go to work.

I use a Ryobi tool post grinder with a 3/8 carbide cutter 1/4 inch shaft at 3000 rpm. Preferable to have some one else hold the frame as this requires a steady tow hand hold, Oh and be sure to wear eye and hand protection, both of you. we have be safe!!

This thread is just another example of gun guys wanting to fix something that isn't broken until it is.

polishing feed ramg
Unless you have a three point bind, I would leave it alone. A good cleaning with degreaser, brush and final application of oil. Using a Dremel or Fordom tool, if you do not know what you are doing, can ruin the barrel. Unless you are knowledgeable with that procedure, take it to a qualified gunsmith.

In my personal experience a Feed Ramp need NOT be mirror polished to function correctly. All that is needed is to have it so there are no burrs or imperfections that could hinder smooth feeding. The best way to polish the feed ramp is by firing FMJ "Ball" ammo.
If you are not having any feeding issues - leave well enough alone! No need to look for trouble - as a lot of times you will find it by fixing something that isn't broken.
