Default Broken stud on 1899 HE made in 1902

I have a broken stud in the frame - I believe it is the cylinder stop stud ??? - it is just behind the trigger stud and the part that bobs up and down when the trigger is activated rotates in place around this stud. Anyway - the post part is broken off. Is there a tool I can buy that will fit in the two slots in the base of this stud to unscrew it from the frame and replace it with a new one? Thanks!!

I've replaced studs before but none that have threaded in. I've not done any of this stud work on a model that old, but as far as I know they don't thread in. Could be wrong, but I would love to see a picture of what you are referring to. Again, the oldest S&W revolver I've worked on was made in 1919.

Most tooling that I have used on single purpose gun repairs I've wound up making myself. I am now in the process of learning about heat treating the tools so they last a while without breaking or wearing out prematurely.

You can alter a metal punch to tap the stud in a circle (counter clockwise) and remove it. It may be staked in place.

Don't know if Numrich has these pre war studs or not. May have to try Jack First.

I worked on a 2nd model .44 Special years ago where the stud was unscrewing. I cleaned it, degreased it, put a little Loctite on it, tightened it up and then staked it in place. Then I polished the inside of frame.

These were screwed in.
The spanner wrench is an easy job to make.
Try Jack First for a perfect replacement or an old stock real stud. ( Used the same as all "K" frames until after WWII.
