Is this for an M&P?
You just change the front sight.

Front site insert
S&W cut and installed a red ramp in my M-19 when they were doing the nickeling job. 30 years + still looks good. It spent a good part of 20 years in my holster on duty and off.

If you are at all a DIY'r there is a Brownell's video on how to do it. It doesn't look very difficult although I don't speak from experiance.

If you are talking about doing it on a revolver without replaceable blades,it was a fairly common practice back in the day. (1980s) anyone with a dovetail file and an old toothbrush was doing it, so it can't be too hard.

Since your ramp is solid (no dovetail for insert) then send it to these guys: Home. It will look factory new & give you a nice visual aim point day or dark.
They can install a Trijicon OEM diode in the front sight. Far better than a plastic bit IMO. I have XS night sights on my pinned J frames. Very nice!

Some revolvers do NOT have pinned or replaceable front sights - they are integral with the guns barrel.
Yes, S&W will cut and install a red insert but I can also suggest another viable option.
Get a small bottle of Testor's Blaze Orange Modelers paint at a hobby shop and use some Alcohol to clean off all traces of oil on the front sight. Using a toothpick, apply a few light coats over a few days on the same area the insert would be installed on. The Blaze Orange paint works even better (at least for me) than the Factory red insert and you can always return it back to original, change the paint color, touch it up after many years of wear, etc. You do not have as many options once you cut a notch in your front sight - unless of course you have the replaceable pined in style. Some guys I know prefer neon green or yellow but have the option of experimentation without permanent change. I too used to cut and install red front sight inserts but NOW I do the Testor's paint thing. Just a suggestion you might consider.
