Default sight shield removal (older gen semi-autos)

How do you remove the shield from the shielded adjustable sights? I assume it pushes over like any other sight? this is as far as I got.

Step 1 Use small punch to depress the button/plungers on the sides.

Step 2 gently pry up the front of sight to unlatch the front plunger.

Step 3 Get flashlight and magnet and search for springs and plungers that fly across room

Step 4 find proper size allen key and remove single screw from top of guard/slide.

Step 5 push/gently drift rear sight base (shield) out the right side of the slide. If it doesn't move easily, liberally apply penetrating oil everywhere the sight base contacts the slide (soak it if you can) wait a day, and try again. If unsuccessful, repeat step 5.

Caution! If you do succeed in sliding the sight base out the right side, you should be aware that it retains the ejector depressor plunger spring and the firing pin safety lever spring and their respective plungers, so keep that flashlight and magnet handy.

Mine was so tight I figured the factory used the Hammer of Thor to knock it in place. I'm letting a gunsmith push it out.

The sight or the base/shield? I got mine out. sprayed alittle Kroil on it and tapped it with a block of wood and a hammer. if yours is real tight, id suggest making a small block of wood that fits snug in the shield/base so it doesnt cave in while you are trying to push it.
