WINTER PROJECT
A buddy from Oregon came home to visit, and brought us some English walnut planks that he sawed out. This one won't make it as a shotgun stock, but will give up 3 or 4 nice pair of grips. Just wish the pieces were all model 27s ..... ....
3 1/2, 4, and 5 inch, to go along with the 6 incher. We'll make do with what we have.
Plenty of room to work with laying them out to catch the best flow in the figure. (picture doesn't do it justice, what with the quick shot of spray poly on the plank.)
Always more guns and wood than time;

Will you be posting pictures of the project's progress? It would be interesting to see a timeline with photos & step by step process. Thanks for sharing.

All freehand Stu....little trim router with a small base.Cutting the deep step at the top takes longer. Have to be careful not to let it rock out at the edges. Don't hog it.

Could use a little input here...been wanting to try a steel grip cap. Cut this out of a piece of 3/8" mill plate and filed it up with a round knob (sort of). Should look better when we get the screws spun up and fitted. Like??..... or not.
Best;

Looks good, I like it. Bit of a hassle to take of the grips, but you shouldn't have to do that mush anyway.
I bought a small cnc mill a while back. I need to resemble it and keep thinking it would be nice to have a program to inlet stocks. I have some very nice stabilized wood I usewd for knife handles/scales.

I think it would look even better polished to a high degree.

The first set is finished, and both grip caps ready to blue. One more to go, and have been using up the trimmings for 1911 scales. Fun, and easy to make.

Very nice....beautiful wood to work with, and I applaud your skills with the router & wood working overall. Metal work on the caps is great also. Great "winter project". Well done.

Doing a nice job on the grips, I'm jealous. I think the caps will look great blued when on the guns. Interesting project, what will you use to blue the caps? Can't wait to see them done, Larry

It'll be winter again soon, and we're finally getting back around to working on the set of capped grips....This pair has the plainest wood, but they look and feel good on the flame thrower29.
All our best;

Simply wonderful craftsmanship. I applaud your skills and patience. few folks know what it takes in work hours to complete such an undertaking. If one had to pay for this example of skills and material, and time well, there would be far fewer... (insert favorite rant, here) thank you for sharing. Very well done, sir.

Second pair of the set on the 25-5....one mushy screw hole needs a dab of epoxy. Those screws were in and out dozens of times. This is the best looking pair, on our all time favorite N frame.
Many thanks for the compliments fellas.

As grandpa on Blue Bloods is famous for saying, "ya we gave the guy a little tune up on the way back to the station". I think the butt cap would be the tool used in said "tune up".
As a carpenter all I can say is WOW!!!
