Replace M 60 hammer with M 649 hammer?
I have a M 60-10 and would like a bobbed hammer on it. I was thinking about replacing it with a M 649 hammer. Can you think of any reason why I couldn't or shouldn't?

A 649 hammer is not bobbed....It just has a narrower spur
However there is no reason why a gunsmith could not install one for you.

It appears to be considerably shorter as well as narrower, which is what I am after. I just wasn't sure if they were compatible or not. Thanks for your reply.

It is not shorter, infact the spur is higher on the model 38/49/649 hammer so it can clear the shroud.

I saw one like that, an M60 with M49 hammer.
The seller said it was done for NYPD policewomen to reduce purse snag.
So why not just buy M49s? Maybe because that was when the M60 was the only stainless J frame.
I know, buy the gun, not the story. So I didn't.

I think it is aesthetically appealing (seriously) but I still see the risk for a snag. You can always buy a MIM hammer and bob it yourself, it's a very easy job.

I like that look too. I've seen the 649 hammer on 637/60's before and also like the result.
