Default Method to remove white paint from sights

What is the best method to remove the white paint on the sights of a S&W Shield? I tried dabbing lacquer thinner on them in hopes it would loosen the paint and allow it to melt away so I could wipe it out. It did not even touch it. I am wanting to remove the white paint on the rear sights only and I plan to paint the front sight with neon orange.

Paint the dots with a flat black. Less hassle.

Many find that if they shoot the gun a few times the dots will just fall out. Especially the front one. If yours don't cooperate, a black Sharpie will probably do the trick.

Use a drill bit (hand use only, do not chuck it in a drill) in a size slightly smaller that the dot, firm to medium pressure. Clean with alcohol or acetone and apply the desired paint. You may have to use a pick to remove some remaining material. I have done this on a few sights to remove the faded white dots that would not clean up, just be careful and don't use heavy pressure on the bit.

Just paint the color you want over the white dots.

John's right. It helps to have a white base before applying any color.

I always use White Out under my dots. It really brightens them no matter what color you use on top. I then use clear nail polish to seal and protect them. I have never had a problem removing the whole dot with acetone when needed.

A round toothpick is a great tool for applying sight paint. Much easier and better looking than a brush for me. Bob

Try finger nail polish remover and a tooth brush.
