Custom Wood Grips
I just got my first Smith & Wesson and I don't care for the grips. They feel far too narrow and even a little short. I'm hoping that changing to a square butt conversion for the round butt frame will do the trick.
I prefer wood grips and I'm very particular. Do any custom grip makers let you select the actual piece of wood?
Do any of them allow you to supply your own wood blank?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Johnny

First check out the posts here by member Kurac. Fantastic work, but I don't know if he will use your wood, I would think so. Also try Ahrends, they use your wood for a fee. Tell us more about your gun and its purpose, and you'll get lots of good suggestions. Welcome to the forum!

Culina LLC
Hi Johnny,
+1 to what Goblin said. Member Kurac is the guy to go to. You can go to his website by googling "Culina LLC". To get an idea of what is possible, go to the grips for sale section and take a look at all of the pictures of the ones currently available and the ones already sold. Contact them via e-mail from their website or PM here on the Forum and either John or Jennifer can get you setup with wood and the style you want. You will not be disappointed with anything John and Jennifer makes for you.

Thanks felllas. I'll look in to them.
What I have is a S&W Governor. It's primarily a bedside gun in the home. Secondly it's for bear and big cats when I'm out on myn land.

Hi Johnny,
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your first Smith & Wesson.
We do take wood from customers and there is a discount. Providing there is time for it, we have the ability for customers to choose unfinished grips which is better than choosing a blank.
The Governor....is a Z frame and it is not clear from what I've read if other frame grips are interchangeable. If K round grips or N round grips work on the Z frame then we can help you. If they require their own unique grip, then unfortunately, we cannot help you especially considering this gun in banned in our good 'ol state of CA. I'll call Smith & Wesson customer service and see if I can find out what grips they take. I'm curious to know.....
Jennifer

Update:
I called Smith & Wesson and they said the Z frame will take K round grips. We make a K RD conversion target grip and a K RD conversion combat grip. If you are interested, you can send me a PM and I can help you.

I'll second (or third) the Culina's - the fit and look of their grips are stunning. Plus they are awesome people to work with.

Wow! I wish I lived where you live. Going out and seeing bear and big cats would be amazingly cool. All I get to see on my land is deer and wild pigs.

Remember to save the old grips so you can put them back on if you decide to sell it. This way if you spend a good amount on a set, you can enjoy them for another gun in the future. Jennifer, do you have a web site?? Larry

I have been fortunate enough to obtain several sets of Culina grips. Their product is outstanding as is their service. Great folks to deal with all around.

Larry, 6518John was kind enough to respond with our website. It has all our general information. You can email me or PM me with any questions. We host our pictures on photobucket which can be buggy. If you have any issues I can email you some pictures.
Thank you everyone for your kind comments! It puts a smile on our faces to work with such great customers too!

The ONE THING you will not find a shortage of are after market grips for S&W revolvers! Seek and you shall find - and there are still plenty of older originals on Fleabay, GB, and many other sites too.
