Standard or + Power Springs For 3rd Gen?
Got a new 6906 and as I always do with used guns, I'm gonna change out the recoil, firing pin, and magazine springs. I've always used Wolff but it's been a while since I bought a used gun. Should I get the factory standard 15 pound recoil spring, or the extra power, which comes in 16,17,and 18 pound?

Unless you are planning on carrying the gun, or regularly firing heavy loads I would think the standard Wolff springs would be fine.
I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but while you are "in there", make sure you clean out the magazines really well when you disassemble them.....and if you replace the f.pin spring, hit the firing pin channel with some solvent on a Q-tip. (should be left dry after cleaning) Amazing how much dirt and primer crud can build up around the F.P.
OEM springs are also available from S&W, or the usual vendors like Midway, Brownells and Numrich

Always use factory equivalent weight springs, unless you know more about the gun than the engineers who designed it.

I clean my magazine after every range trip. Kind of OCD that way. Amd I know to clean out the firing pin channel. I've done it on every 3rd gen I ever owned, and never got any mess out of there. I've seen pictures of those who have, though, so I always check.

I usually go with an extra power spring since I shoot almost exclusively full power or +P loads. Even with heavy springs in my guns I've not had any problems shooting (the occasional) regular or light loads. Conversely, full loads (still) eject farther than I'd like. It really come done to personal choice. Experiment with them if you like.
