New owner of M&P 9mm full size.
What combo do you use to clean your gun? What do you recommend?

Break-Free CLP-2 Cleaner Lubricant Preservative (aerosol or none?)
Tetra gun grease
Hoppe's No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner
M-Pro 7 Gun Oil - LPX
Hoppe's No. 9 Lubricating Oil
Slip2000 EWG Syringe Applicator
Gun cleaning picks?
Got cleaning patches?
Cleaning mat?
Borehead Viper any good?
Cleaning brushes?
Anything else?

Thank you.

I have, or have had, everything on your list - plus some! I've pretty much settled on a bore snake, Rem Oil wipes, Frog Lube, a toothbrush and qtips.

ETA: Also patches and cleaning rods.

So many cleaning products out there it is mind boggling. Using Breakfree CLP and Hoppes. Yes I do use Bore Snakes also.

Default PLENTY TO CHOOSE FROM

Notboo:

I suspect there are very few cleaning/oil products that shouldn't be used. Personally, I use Kroil for cleaning & lubing plus a small dab of RIG grease on semi-auto rails. Butches Bore Shine for black powder fouling.

One thing not mentioned by others, I use an air compressor after cleaning to blow dirty cleaning agents & powder fouling out of the gun that I couldn't reach with patches nor Q-Tips.

A note on compressors. If you do not have a dryer in the line, you may be spraying water into your firearm. All depends upon humidity.

Notboo:

I doubt there are two people here who use the same exact "kits" for cleaning and lubrication. Most here have tweaked their brands and styles to fit their needs, climate and likes, so you will just have to try the most popular ones and fins what works for you.

MY GO-TO's ARE:

Rig #2 Oil for cleaning, rust prevention and lubrication (all-in-one)

Birchwood - Casey Synthetic Gun Oil - for better Lubrication on .22 rails

Rig +P Grease for Slides and Rails on larger calibers & Rifles

Rig Universal Grease for long term storage and rust prevention

Brownells line of Bronze Bore Brushes

Brownells line of 100% cotton patches

Dewey brand of Stainless Steel Cleaning Rods & Brass Loops

More importantly is not exactly what you use, but that you DO USE "what-ever" on a routine basis. Most of the name brand items that have stood the test of time should be just fine as long as they are regularly used and used properly. IMHO Bore Snakes are fine for Field or Range cleanings when returning back to the Field or Range soon after, but they are NO SUBSTITUTE for a thorough conventional cleaning.

I like Balistol,Hopes 9, Remoil, clp or any old light lubricating oil. A good wax can also be helpful.

Old t shirts and flannel rags along with an old toothbrush with whatever cleaning rod is handy rounds things out.

The truth is I'm not impressed with some of the newer stuff (bore snakes as an example). The older, more randomly assembled stuff has worked for me for over 50 years.

Default What cleaning supplies combo do you use?

Break free CLP,penetrating oil,PB blaster for smokeless and hot water for black powder
A bore brush to loosen the crud and a wad of paper towel pushed through the barrel and chambers to swab em out.A toothbrush and pics are handy for cleaning nooks and crannies.Lead away cloths or mothers mag wheel polish are great for cleaning stainless, but don't use them on blued guns.

Hoppe's #9 Solvent and gun oil, usually in those gun cleaning kits that come in the brown plastic box. I buy the cheapest white cotton patches in bulk I can find. Gun cleaning mat? C'mon. Old newspapers or a big square of foamcore work just fine. Final wipedown with an even cheaper old used t-shirt or pieces of flannel cut from dearly departed flannel shirts. I might use some WD-40 once in a while, depending on whether or not I can remember where I put it after the last time I used the stuff.

I live an uncomplicated life.

Ed's Red , general gun cleaner and bore solvent.
Equal parts of :
1.)ATF , rated general motors type cars (automatic transmission fluid)

2.) K-1 Kerosene, Hurricane lamp oil or kerosene heater fuel, it has a reddish tint to it but the clear stuff will work also

3.) 100% mineral spirits , low odor is best

4.) Acetone

Just mix it up and store in a metal can , some plastics are affected by kerosene and/or acetone. Windex spray bottle can be used for application and short term storage.

Gary
The stuff works and is so much cheaper than the store bought...try it just once.

Gun cleaning oil thing. Usually Hopes or CLP but whatever works.

Patches for correct caliber.

Bore brush and a few random brushes just in case

I'm currently using Break Free CLP for cleaning and Gun Butter for lube.

Bronze bore brushes.

Bronze and nylon brushes.

Square cotton patches of the appropriate size (I haven't liked any of the synthetic patches I've tried).

Cotton rags. Old t-shirts are good.

Cleaning rod. I have the one that fits inside the handle. I don't know if it's a brass or steel rod, but generally brass is better. I haven't had any issues as the longest barrel I've ever had to clean was 4" and I use the muzzle guide that came with the rod.

I do use a gun cleaning mat, but mostly because I don't have a lot of space where I live so where I clean my gun is also where I eat, surf the 'net, do my work, etc. The mat makes cleaning up my work space easier. It also helps keep small parts from rolling away.

I may be overly cautious, but I also wear safety glasses and gloves when cleaning my gun. *braces for mocking*

Rig grease for slide rails, bolt lugs, hinge pins, choke tubes and storage

I forgot about those. I have a set of Chapman screwdrivers.

I also have toothpicks and Q-tips on hand, but I rarely use them for gun cleaning. They usually get used for cleaning my pocket knives.

For exterior metal like receivers and barrels I recently tried that Remington Green cloth which contains Rem. oil and rust inhibitors. Seems to work okay and leaves a nice sheen on blued metal.

I believe Ballistol is the best all around cleaner/lubrication product. Since it cleans AND oils at the same time, it is a real time saver. Also Hoppes and CLP are good too.

Default Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning rods
Brushes
Tooth brush, preferably the Army issue M- 16 cleaning type
Picks
Tweezers
100% cotton patches
Screwdrivers
Hoppe's #9
Break Free
Ballistol
Small scissors for cutting 100% cotton tee shirts into patches
Small flashlight
Dental mirror
Thread adaptor, 8x32 to 10x32
Thread adaptor, 10x32 to 8x32
A couple of brass punches

In my opinion, it is almost impossible to do a really good job of cleaning any gun, particularly a revolver, without using a good toothbrush

The bee's Wax and olive oil combination makes an excellent patch lubricant for muzzleloaders when shooting balls when mixed in a 1 to 3 or 1 to 4 Wax / oil ratio.

I shoot a lot of lead bullets, so I also have a Lewis Lead remover in those calibers. I believe Brownell's bought out the rights, and you can get them from there.

I recently also bought a large Lyman ultrasonic cleaner and plan on trying that out, at least on my stainless guns.
