Need some help with different cylinder/extractor on model 610
I just purchased a new unfluted cylinder from another member on the forum. When I got it, I couldn't wait to swap it out. I finally got around to it today after receiving it on Friday. Disassembly and reassembly went smoothly, until I tried to close the cylinder. The new cylinder came with it's own extractor star, which has a deeper ratchet than the old one, so it would not allow the cylinder to close. I tried using the old one with the new cylinder, but the shafts are different. The older shaft has a notch, like a full length keyway, whereas the new one has a flat side. My 610 is a no-dash with serial # BFA7XXX. Does S&W sell extractor stars with different depth ratchets to allow swapping of cylinders?

Another view
Here is a view showing the difference in the shafts. Sorry, but for some reason it's only letting me attach one picture per post.

The cylinder that you bought is intended for a 610 that has been manufactured on the CNC mills (-2 or -3) and not for a no dash 610.
I do not know if an unfluted cylinder was ever made for the no dash.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I kind of figured there wasn't going to be a work around. Dang, I really like the look and feel of an unfluted cylinder. Years ago, I had a Les Baer 629 with the unfluted cylinder and loved it...sadly I let it go when finances were tight.
