Default Ahrend Grip repair

I recently purchased a PC627 that also came with a really nice set of Ahrend Classic grips I CocoBollo. Really nice until I noticed the chip in the back strap area anyway.

So I was going to try to repair the chip with some sort of wood putty but am thinking it's going to be near impossible to match the color . The chip is also in a place where the wood is paper thin so getting filler to stick and stay may be a challenge as well.
I'm wondering if I should:
Repair with some sort of wood putty/epoxy
b) file both grips to remove the chip and "even out" the material on each side.
c) leave it alone and sell them off as is.

Living with them as is is not an option.

Filing and evening them out is the best idea. It won't be as noticeable because all it will do is expose a little more of the backstrap. I've done it and it's pretty easy if you file carefully and take off a little at a time. Use a small detail file with fine teeth. Good luck.

That;s kind of what I was thinking.

I didn't call Ahrends as I'm thinking there is little he could do..

Actually, before you do anything rash, talk to member DWFan. He may be able to repair them correctly. Having said that, Ahrends grips are not hugely expensive so it's an if'y proposition to have them repaired.

Exact same thing happened to my Ahrends grips for my 686 RB. I did what Sodacan said to do and it turned out great. No one would know the difference. I used sandpaper instead of a file though. Either one will work.

Just to close the loop, I did file them even and then touched the worked section up with some tong oil. They came out good. I need to post some pics one of these days.

Good job. Sometimes we surprise ourselves with how handy we can be.
