Default Replacements of rebond spring on my model19

Hello guys,
I've eventually received my set of Wolff rebond springs to be fitted on my old model 19-4. I made different tests regarding the trigger weights with the original and the 5 Wolff springs. The results are pretty good.
Are you interested in these results?
Friendly from Brittany/France.

I'm interested in the results especially if you include data on their FF rate (if any) at the range and your choice of primer used during the testing.
One of the kit vendors (Miculek S&W Revolver Spring Kit. K, L & N Frame) stipulates the use of Federal primers for use with their kits for best results.

Hello Bob,
I'm going to the range tomorrow. I'm using either Winchester primers on my .44 reloading cartridges or even Machtech (Brazil) for my .357 ammo. I don't know what is the FF rate.
Here are the results, the weights are in grams you will easily find a way to convert into your strange units
I've got two S&W revolvers, a model 19 and a model 29

Mod 19 Trigger weight in grams
Original spring 1633 ±25
Wolff spring 12 Lb 1188 ±25
Wolff spring 13 Lb 1235 ±25
Wolff spring 14 Lb 1273 ±25
Wolff spring 15 Lb 1417 ±25
Wolff spring 16 Lb 1480 ±25
I eventally installed the lighter one on that gun: the 12Lb
Mod 29 Trigger weight in grams
Original spring 1743 ±25
Wolff spring 14 Lb 1326 ±25
On that one I put the 14 Lb
Everything will be tested on the range tomorrow
I put a picture of the way I did the measurements. The gun is hold verticaly in a wooden vise, a weight is hanging from the trigger, a plastic bottle is used to fine adjust the measurement by adding or remove water. Everything is weighed on a simple kitchen scale....
Friendly and have a good weekend.
Jack

As your data indicates, a pull gauge of that type is the most precise way to measure. It virtually eliminates the human error inherent in the spring/digital tools. I use something similar, but I use a wide-moth can that I can conveniently add and remove bullets from.

If you changed only the rebound spring, only your single action pull will be significantly affected. Your total weight range is on the order of one pound. That's substantial for single action; not so much on a 10-12 lb DA pull.

Furthermore, using the original mainspring/adjustment, your DA hammer power will be unaffected, thus, no change in ignition reliability.

Minimal rebound spring weight is determined by how reliably the trigger resets. A bit of sluggishness might be acceptable if it will only be fired SA
but it can really hamper DA fire. Minimal mainspring weight is largely determined by the weight at which primer ignition fails during DA fire.

HI Jack, your work is much appreciated. FF=Failure to Fire.
All of my Smiths are used and most have had rebound spring coils and/or strain screws shortened which resulted in a very high rate of failure to fire and/or push-off. I fixed these issues with replacing the strain screws with new ones and installing Wolff springs in various weights (starting with the lightest) until the FF/push-off issue quit (normally the 14# or 15#). The only gun I had to change the main spring on was a '52 Outdoorsman and I put in a Wolff Standard Power rib unit. With the new main spring I was able to back off the rebound spring to the 15#.
Hope you have a Great Weekend, Bob

Hello buddies,
I'm a competition shooter and I use a revolver for accurate shooting in .32 S&W Long that is only SA. Therefore, I concentrated in reducing the trigger weights on my revolvers in SA as well and it worked beautifully.
Sorry Mike but I didn't make any test on whether the DA of the guns have changed...
Bob, I just unscrewed the tension on the mainspring while I replaced the rebond springs. Afterwards, I re-screwed to apply the same tension on the mainspring. Therefore, it shouldn't change the FF that was egal to "0" on both guns.
Have a good time.
Friendly.
Jack

Hello friends,
After the yesterday's session at the range, it was very comfortable to shoot with that reduced weights on triggers and I had no FF.
My two revolvers are fitted with new Hogue grips but they are definitly a lot too narrow. They are designed for very small hands. I don't understand why Hogue doesn't propose different sizes of grips such as the British shoes "narrow, medium and large". I think I'm going to get rid of them...same for Pachmayr...
Have a nice Sunday.
Jack
