I have a 6906 that I acquired about 6 months ago. I finally took
it to the range yesterday to fire it. I have about a dozen 12 round
factory S&W magazines for it. When I put a fully loaded 12 round
mag in and fired it, it operated flawlessly. Then after firing serveal
full magazines, I put another full mag in, chambered a round, and
dropped the magazine to add another round. When I took the
magazine out, another round fell out of the receiver. I looked in
the chamber, and there was still a round in there. I tried this with
all of the magazines, and even with a few 5906 magazines, and
every time I chamber a round and drop the mag, another round
falls out of the receiver. It appears to me that it is stripping
two rounds at a time.
Has anybody else ran into this situation, as to what is the
cause, and how to repair it short of sending it back to S&W?

I've had this happen in both my single and double-stack Smith autos. As far as I know, it's never affected the function. I assume the slide grabbing the first round pushes the next one slightly forward in the magazine.

I don't think it's stripping two rounds. What's happening is the 2nd round is moving forward just a bit and when you etract the mag the round is being pulled up and out of the mag as it contacts the inside of thw mag well

I agree. What's probably happening is the live round below the round that is being chambered is being pulled forward slightly in the magazine during the slide's motion forward. When you remove the magazine, it is then forced up and out of the magazine due to contact with the frame/mag well.

Usually, this problem can be mitigated by a thorough cleaning of the slide and magazine, and/or the installation of a new magazine spring.

You should also check the "flat" area below the firing pin channel for evidence of dirt, milling marks or burrs.....as the rounds can be dragged foward by imperfections and dirt/debris on this flat surface. Crocus cloth can be used to lightly polish milling marks or imperfections found. Material should not be removed from the surface....polish only.

In addition to what is noted above (I'd suggest new magazine springs and a new recoil spring), by any chance are you riding the slide with your hand when it goes forward? Just let it fly.

Yes. OP this happens with all the gen 3 guns. My 908 does it as well. Obviously it's an issue when you drop out a partially loaded mag to practice malfunctions drills....
