Default Grip finish question.

The factory grips on my 37 are just a teensy bit too thick at the left ear to let me easily use Safariland speedloaders. Is there a method of thinning them down and touching them up that keeps them looking mostly unaltered without having to do a total refinish?

McGuires scratch x20. will bring down the clear finish, while leaving it shiney and not flat like other compounds.
