Okay so I admit it my eyes are not what they used to be! Soo as a result I figured some one out there has dealt with this already and has modified the sights on their Model 59 some how.

I would like to find away to improve the visibility particularly at night although just doing something so they stand out better during the day would of course be better than what I have now.

Any one out there done anything with tritium sights for the Model 59? Any suggestions?

Not many (none) tritium options out there for the model 59 I'm afraid. Have you considered applying a brightly colored paint to the front sight?

Train yourself not to use the sights in combat style training

Try both eyes open looking over the top of the sights.

There's really no time for getting that nice sight picture when your bacon needs saving.

I have considered it although it doesn't help much in low light. Last time I shot it at the range the target was a standard 20yrd black 3 ring target I couldn't line up the sight line on center ended up moving off to the side in the white getting top to bottom lined up then moving back to center or as close as I could get and taking the shot. Of course my old shaky hands don't help. Don't get me wrong I can still keep about a 4 or 5 inch, maybe less if it's lite, group at 20 ft. Wished it was 3inches. So no doubt I could stop an intruder. It's those times when you want to be dead on - guess I am a bit OCD when it comes to that......

I've been wondering if anyone has done something custom that might work for me as well!

AH yea! Believe me I have and will "point and shoot" if I need to. Have done some paint ball in the past and have been able to hit targets while at a full run aiming with the index finger. By the way I notice you are out of Austin, Tx. My Daughters boy friend is a range safety officer at The Range the new facility that is supposed to open in a few weeks he is a retired LEO from San Mateo, CA they now live in Dripping Springs....

I'd contact some of the better known after market sight makes and ask them. Even if they don't make sights for your particular model they might at least be able to steer you in the right direction.

I'm just outside Austin in the town of Cedar Park

I go to the gun show in Dripping Springs that is smaller than the ones within a 1-3 hour drive but I find more to buy there.It takes me about 45-60 minutes to drive to the Dripping Springs show location.Still a lot of large cattle ranches in that area.

I'll keep an eye out for the new range opening and be sure to give it a visit.

The indoor range where I'm a member is only 5 minutes away and has 10 25 yard positions but it will soon add 10 50 yard points.There's another indoor range not far from me that is 100 yards.

It is quite a ways for you. The Range I've only seen the outside we were there during Christmas, is supposed to have like 37 lanes a VIP area restaurant, retail and more. They have I believe out to 100 yrds and you can shot almost anything. They even have full auto's you can rent. It looks like it should be very nice. The Range at Austin - Austin's Premier Indoor Shooting Facility is their website. Nothing like your ranges in my area. I live in Santa Clara, CA about 2 miles from Levi Stadium. There is only two indoor ranges within driving distance of me and they are both 50yrds max and only allow Pistols, Shotguns or Rifle in .22 LR or Mag nothing larger. There are also two outdoor ranges, although I prefer to go out in the woods so I don't have to have a bunch of people standing right next to me blasting away.

I envy you folks in TX. I feel like a criminal just taking my guns to the range.

It's just hard to believe no one has come up with something for the Model 59. I did contact Tru-glow they really just said sorry.

Ok, I'll tell you what I did. First off, I agree that my only fault I find in my 59 is the sights. I am old and my hand shakes and my eyes are not what the once were. I looked and did not find what I wanted so I made my beautiful 59 look like a painted up lady of the night.

I bought some very fine brushes for model cars and planes and I found some acrylic super florissant paints: Yellow and Orange and super bright white.

My rear sights are Yellow totally. My front sights are split in the middle with bright orange on the top half and white on the bottom half. Now I can see the sights and the target perfectly.

You should be able to adjust the windage on the 59 with a small screw on the rear sight. But you can't adjust elevation, but with my 2 tone colors on the front sight you now can use that to adjust your elevation.

Like I said, it looks like I put lipstick on a pig but WOW you can now aim very well and the cost is about $10.

Hey! I use this gun for my CCW and pretty is not going to stop the bad guy, so I choose to use a great gun (the 59) in a way that I can split the hairs on the bad guys nose. Even with my aging eyes and not so steady hand I can still (with cheap Walmart Winchester rounds) group 14 rounds center mass 5 inch diameter at 30 feet with rapid fire (Less than 1 second per shot). I could do better with competition or higher quality rounds but all I need for practice is the cheap stuff and use a decent hollow point for defense.

So if you want better ability to see, consider the lipstick on a pig...

Just so you know: No one says a thing to me on the range about my gun...
