Default What's the best way to clean the checkering on grips

Going to pick up a 27 2 3 1/2" tomorrow. I want to clean her up and noticed some dirt in the checkering. I'm sure a nylon toothbrush will get in between the checkering. But, what do you guys recommend to clean, and protect the grips? Thanks.

I just use some paint thinner (mineral spirits) NOT the odorless kind, the regular kind.

If you have Ballistoil you could use that also.

well i have found that a soft toothbrush works very well to clean out checkering.....i use linseed oil on my grips and find that it also does very well if u want to rehydrate the grips too..it all depends on how the grips were finished...with just dust and dirt...i think the soft toothbrush will do what u need...God Bless,John

Mineral spirits or acetone with a brush. Next day follow up with some boiled linseed oil as the solvent will strip the oil finish. Ordinary rubbing alcohol will work well too.

I have had a couple where the finish was good, just a lot of gunk in the checkering. I used a soft bristle toothbrush, lightly sprayed with "Lemon Pledge" furnisher polish. Cleaned them up nice, and left a little protection. Smelled good too...

There may be better ways that I haven't tried, but acetone and a toothbrush has worked well for me...
