Default MIM Sear Spring

I bent the heck out of the sear spring on a new 617 yesterday. I tried to bend it back into shape, but gave up and ordered a replacement.

I was gong to use a feeler gauge to hold it in, but my feeler gauges are all too big. I guess maybe a piece of plastic sheet, but will that be strong enough . . . Before I bend the heck out of another, any one have any tricks on reinstalling the sear while keeping the spring from getting caught and bent?

The spring can be attached to the end of a straightened hairpin leg. The spring is then placed into the sear and compressed and placed into the cavity in the hammer. After pushing the sear, spring and leg into place, the hairpin leg is carefully removed.

Yeah, that's what I was going to do with my feeler gauge, but like I said, they were too big, so I thought I would use a small screwdriver, but the spring got away from it and I couldn't see that with my big fat fingers in the way, so ended up bending it in half. Don't have a hair pin around but I must have a leaf spring small enough around here somewhere.

This is the first time I've detail stripped an MIM parts S&W, or at least the sear anyway.
