What is the difference between the two methods of manufacture and is one better than another?

The current hammer's are MIM (you said ECM, that's something different & is for barrels), not forged. MIM is cheaper but very hard & requires less/little fitting, so guess which one S&W chooses.

I think the OP was referring to how the barrels are made...

Oops, I mis-read, sorry.

You're still mixing two different terms.

ECM is a type of rifling, not a type of barrel manufacturing.

Are you asking if they're broached or ECM/EDM rifling?
