Default D.A.revolver sear help

what is the process of fitting the double action sear (on the hammer ) to the trigger? i bought a used mod 31 and the trigger pull is not smooth through the pull. Other areas of the trigger & hammer are smooth and the DA sear looks misshaped on the bottom (sharper angle)and looks like the trigger doesn't bare on it.Looks like i might have to replace it.

Take everything out except the hammer and trigger. Rock them back and forth together, applying some forward pressure on the hammer. You are looking for a smooth transition from the sear/top of trigger to secondary engagement. If the sear is too short, replace it or file some off the bottom of the hammer. If the sear is too long, file some off the sear. If you file on the sear, make sure that only the front tip touches the top of the trigger at the beginning. You will need a fine diamond file or stone for this work, a regular file will just be dulled by the hard hammer and trigger surfaces.

Fitting alterations should be confined to the sear itself. If the hammer DA foot is "filed", which is hard to do since it is case hardened, the modification will result in three things......problems with carry up in DA, (that is, the cylinder won't carry up) the hammer will be ruined, and the file will be damaged.

Be sure to eliminate the other issues that can cause rough DA before attempting the replace/fit a new sear.
