Default Pin doesn't move in cylinder/crane

Forgive me if I use the wrong terminology.

I have a cylinder/crane from an 1920s M&P. The pin in the very center does not move - at all. In one working correctly, you can move it and feel spring tension against it.

So, I am curious what to do about it. My first try is going to be to soak it in Kroil for a couple of days. If it is still stuck, does anyone have any suggestions?

Looks like it's full of oxidation. My guess is the c.p. spring is frozen to the center pin, and the center pin is frozen inside the extractor rod. I would suggest a liberal amout (soaking) of a rust cutter like EEZOX....and time for it too work.

I would try disassembly after you soak it in your preferred penetrating oil.

That extractor rod is a right hand thread. To remove it after considerable soaking in solvent, apply torque counterclockwise. ....

It is always a good precaution to place three fired (empty) brass in three chambers to prevent the extractor star from jumping out of place and buggering things up. ......

Here's another dumb follow up question. Should I take the mushroom knob off the end of the rod? Or leave it? If take it off, which direction do the threads go? Many thanks

By the way - after 24 hours in Kroil, the pin is moving when I push it and slowly returning with the spring.

The knurled end of the rod cannot be removed.....it's part of the extractor rod.

Thanks for that!!! I'd have really messed it up!

Follow up: It is all apart now...soaking it in Kroil still. A lot of grunge was inside.
