I was surfing on line this morning and found this very recent Factory Tour of the Starrett Tool Company in Athol MA. Not for everyone, but those of us who use Starrett Tools in the repair of our Firearms might appreciate it. Enjoy!

The guy on the left in the opening scene looks like Leonard Hofstetter from Big Bang Theory.

Like stuff like that. Would love to have a real tour of S&W factory.

Often watch how its made etc.

They have a lot of equipment but it looks like its mostly the newer stuff they are operating based on the video.

I just watched an episode of "How It's Made" that featured the production of a Starrett micrometer. It was interesting.

still have my Starrett 1/2" to 32" Inside mics., last year used them when getting a new double oven, outside mics, other well used tools, last shop i worked in, our tools had to insp. and tag, logged in their co. books. Lufkin depth mics. to 6", close est. of age, 60+ yrs., always passed inspection. a foreman in the mill gave them to me when he retired. miss haveing access to bridgeports, lathes and presses.

I have a Heavy 9" South Bend lathe that I bought from my Cousin, who owns a machine shop. Did a lot of cleaning up on it and some work, and it works very well for me.
If I need to use a mill, I can use one at the shop, as he has 3 of them. I like the Bridgeport best. Another one is a Lagun, which is very nice too. Used it to route out an M1A stock for glass bedding.

I do have a dozen or so Brown & Sharp precision tools but 90% of what I have is Starrett. Some I bought but most came from my Grandfather and my Father. I've got a set of 6 Micrometers from 0-1" up to 5-6", a half dozen regular Mic's, Dial Calipers, Dial gauges, all kinds of Compasses, V-Blocks, Clamps, Feeler Gauges, Assorted Measuring Devises, Combination Squares, Rules, Scribes, Punches, blah blah blah which are mostly older than I am. IMHO Starrett is the top of the line!.

There is a really good selection of Starrett tools on Ebay and some are even like new. The prices are pretty reasonable and I've bought some of my Starrett stuff on there as well.

I too have Starrett and Brown & Sharpe tools. My buddies Dad was a machinist and after he died, my buddy gave me his two tool chests with all the tools used by his Dad. I asked him why he didn't keep them and he said he wouldn't know how to use most of them, and I would put them to good use. Bought quite a few more tools also, including items for the lathe.
