Default S&W 457 hammer

I would like to change out my flush hammer with a exposed serrated hammer like on my 5904. Are all hammers fitted to the same receivers and slides?
Looks like my 5904 would fit a 457. Is this true? S&W would make all parts to fit different model guns, am I right?
All comments and opinions Welcome.
Joe

Hi, Joe!

In my experience, all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen TDA (DA/SA) hammers, spurred or spurless, will interchange without modification or fitting.

Be aware that 1st and 2nd gen hammers will have a half-cock notch whereas 3rd gen hammers will not.

Does that help?

John

Just so you know, Joe, the model 457 is a 3rd gen pistol and does not use a half cock notch.
However, a hammer will work in a 457 whether it has a half cock notch or not.

Default 457 Hammer

So John, does this mean that I can use any caliber 9mm, 10mm 40 .45acp in the slide because they will fit a 3rd gen gun that is from a 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen gun? My point is are they all inter changeable to the frame and Slide?

The frame and/or slide do not matter to the hammer.
Any DA/SA hammer will fit any DA/SA pistol.
The only rule is don't use an unlightened, forged, spurred hammer in any .40s&w 3rd gen pistol.
