I have a Model 642 that the clear finish is peeling off.
I contacted S&W Customer Service and was informed that the finish is under warranty for one year ?
I purchased this revolver 1.5-2 years ago new. The Rep told me that the serial number show it left the factory in 2010 so the warranty is void. I asked if weapons sit in the warehouses or shop selves longer than a year and he admitted "Yes". I received a return label to send the revolver back for evaluation. I reported that the revolver has been carried in a IWB holster and has been cleaned with non=acid cleaner/oil.
The clincher was the rep said that the S&W Revolver was for using/defense/shooting and not for looks ??

Common issue. Happened to my 642 10 years ago. Had it refinished and it happened again.

For a company like S&W to continue to use what they know is a bad finish is unacceptable. And their response that it is a defense weapon so it doesn't need to look good is even worse.

According to Customer Service, the finishes are guaranteed for one year.

Went round and round with them the first of the year reference the finish on a brand new 642. The finish started coming off under the grips.

They ended up refinishing the gun and sent it back to me at no charge. I sold the gun immediately after I got it back.
