Question How good is work done by the S&W Performance center custom shop?

Hi,

I was thinking of having S&W custom shop do a trigger job, and tune up on my 629.

Anyone had work done by them? How good was it?

Thanks.....

I currently have my 69 back at the mothership for some warranty work followed by the PC Master Revolver package so I can report when I get it back.

I own a custom E series Smith 1911 from the PC. All my other carry guns are all Smith but I'm a wheel gun man. My Smith 1911 is my ONLY carry auto and well worth the money. I've been at Smith several times over the years, back when the Academy was in full tilt buggie, and these folks are the best. It is well worth your time and money to have them work on your gun.

I bought a new Model 67 as a birthday gift for a friend, and sent it back to the PC to have a "duty action," and a conversion to DAO (my friend likes DAO revolvers for defense use).

I also had them install the PC firing pin, which is set up to give more reliable ignition.

The work was excellent. I definitely recommend the PC for this type of work.

Just reading many the comments here on the Forum over the years, some guys can't sing the praises loud enough and some guys have had to send their guns back multiple times. Guess it depends on who actually does the work, what day of the week it is, and pure luck. Kind of like any other Manufacturing Company is - nothing more than the sum of their employees.

Guys like Turnbull who actually get their OWN hands dirty do most if not all of the work and so you pay top dollar but are getting the best experienced person in the trade. Employees who work for large corporations are getting paid scale or union wages and to them (at least for the most part) it's a job and they are not worried about their personal reputation too much. Once in a while you do get a skilled, conscientious, ethical worker who does excellent work. Good luck with your 629.
