I've always done it dry just because I never thought to do otherwise. The first pull is always hard because you are forming the screen to the barrel shape. I think the next time I do it, I'll use some oil for the first pull, then bore cleaner for the next few times.

I run some Hoppe's through first and let it set a while. It probably doesn't matter though.

Default lead cleaner

the instructions say not to use any thing with the kit, i never have. i suspect the oil or solvent would make the screen slip over and not remove the lead.

I've always read that any lead removing cloth or patch should be run through the barrel bone dry.

Dry works, but it's a pain to use. On second thought, removing lead by any method is a pain.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Run a DRY patch through the Bore and Cylinder Charge Holes. Then use the LLR DRY. If you lubricate (with cleaner solvent) the Brass LLR patch, it will glide through without removing the Lead efficiently. I believe they still include directions with the LLR kit, and they do explain that right there.

Per the instructions, I run the first patch through "dry". I'll run it through three or four more times. I will do likewise for the cylinders, then check the front of same to determine if lead is still present.

Then I repeatedly run a brass brush through with #9 solvent followed by a cotton patch. Then the brass brush again at which point I leave the solvent present in the chambers and bore. When I return about 24 hours later, I always find that some additional lead has worked out of the pores of the metal.

The Lewis Lead Remover was a Godsend.

HTH.
