Most times if a revolver barrel is shortened the front sight base has to be replaced. Is the replacement fsb soldered on or is the barrel drilled and tapped for screws? Who makes these replacement fsbs? Is there a way to replace the fsb on a tapered barrel.

I used the Weigand front sight on my 629 when I cut it down. That is now being offered by Bowen at this page Smith & Wesson DX Front Sight Base [P411] - $45.95 : + Bowen Classic Arms +, Parts Store
It requires some milling and drilling to mount and takes the S&W Interchangeable front sight blades.
