Current state- L frame .40 conversions?
While there's some old stuff a ways back, I'd like to see if there's a good shop doing .40 caliber conversions on 586s and the like.
See, the Missus is a sponsored hot-shot USPSA shooter who gets a truckload of SnS Casting bullets every year, and guess who gets to put them in cases? That means there's a ton of .40 ammo laying around waiting to get triggered off and it's tempting.
I mean, we're talking 30K a year.

It might just be less of a hassle to buy a Model 610 of your liking. It N frame not an L frame though.

I have a 646 that shoots .40 S&W. There are some around used, but the price has gone up lately.

I don't know anyone else doing those conversions, but I did 2 for myself. One is a 4 inch, using a takeoff 646 barrel I found online. The other is a 6" .357 barrel that I sent out and had rebored. It still says .357 on the side, I need to remark it. The 4" one is my IDPA gun. I got the chambering reamer from Manson, a custom one that was $200. It works perfectly. I've had a lot of problems with Clymer in the past, only buy Manson now.

I love my N-frames but I do have issues with reaching the trigger properly in fast shooting. That's the impetus for the L.
I have had a beater ex-police 586 for some time that I (also) have used in IDPA and I shoot it particularly well with some customized Hogues.
Toolguy... you got me going down a rocky path there...
Who might be willing to do a rebore?

I felt that somebody had to do it
I'm waiting for the market to decide they're ultra desirable; of course I may expire before that happens. Look how long it took for model 58's to have their day in the sun.
The only .40 S&W I've ever owned. Fine gun, relatively light and accurate. Rarely shoot it though.
I do have the original .40, a Colt SAA in .38-40, I can use the same bullets in both.

Bullet Bob, I'm not sure whether to "like" or "hate" that post. I had a friend with one of those and he would not part with it. When he passed, his non-gun-liking widow took it to a store and sold it for $500.
I haven't seen one for sale below $1600 in a while, so your day in the financial sun is probably here.

Well, OKFC05, let me know if you want to unload that thing. Need a .38 Diamondback?

That price surprises me, I thought they were around $900.00 - 1000.00 if in excellent condition with all the junk, but I've quit looking at gun prices.
If you can find out when I croak, my son will probably let it go for $100.00 or less, he's not a gun guy. I still like him though.
If you're wife is a sponsored shooter, wouldn't buying one be a tax-deductible business expense? I'm no accountant, but it seems reasonable to me.

A devoted father!
The missus is a USPSA Single Stack and Limited Division shooter. Got to have a John Moses design.
She did dabble very slightly in a little ICORE with my fixed-up 6" 686.
Managed a 9th place overall out of 29 on the first try.
Oddly, she did take slight note of another buddy and I discussing the 646 years ago and thought it might be the one revo she'd like, because of the .40 S&W chambering, just like her Canyon Creek Customs.
Too bad it would cost money.
But, thinks I have "too many" revolvers in the safe.
Got to get a dictionary and look up what that is.
This thread turned out to be more entertaining than I expected!

Probably less of a hassle if you can find a 610 - I have been looking (halfheartedly) for a 610 for a couple of years and they are pretty high dollar when you can find one.
You also have the "problem" of the longer cylinder with a 610 as it is built with the 10MM in mind which is a bit longer than the 40 cal.
