Default Baby Chief Question

I picked up this baby chief on GB The ad said it had an issue with DOUBLE ACTION
I pulled the plate and transffer bar fell out
Now funny but with the bar out it cycles perfectly in double action
Any ideas why ?

It's a hammer block, not a transfer bar, so the action will work without it, but without it you have a potentially dangerous situation if the hammer were to receive a hefty blow. And the hammer block falls out when you take off the side plate if you're not careful. It's possible a previous owner removed the plate and then did not get the hammer block positioned correctly when he put the plate back on, and that could have caused the initial problem.

Thanks after I posted I was searching and found what Numbrich called a Transfer bar was really the Hammer Block Anyway the piece is a Basket case and I would suspect that it just falling out indicated that it was not correctly fitted I will have to play around with it BUT THANKS SO MUCH I thought I had more serious issues

Have a GS look at it. The Hammer Block SHOULD ride up & down smoothly in the Side Plate's groove regardless weather the gun is shot in single or double action mode. It is hard to put the Hammer Block in wrong as the Side Plate would not fit on properly. I suspect there is something else going on.
