Default Barrel Help

Good Morning Everyone, someone please educate me on the Barrel of a SW Model 60-15. I just got my model 60 Friday, I'm looking down the center from the rear sight to the front sight and I noticed that the barrel is canted to the left like SW screwed the barrel in to far. The front sight doesn't align up with rear sight. I called SW twice, once Friday and just this morning, got the same guy on the phone and he's telling me that there is a tolerance for the barrel to be off center. Hw said that I needed to go out and shoot the gun, that the sights should be aligned. I just don't feel comfortable shooting an offset barrel. Any Help? Oh I told the guy I wanted a shipping label so I could send it in and get it checked!

I would ask to speak with his supervisor if he gives you the brushoff again. A new gun shouldn't have a canted barrel and have some nimrod in customer service blowing you off.

I got one of those canted barrels and shot it carefully to see how much difference it made. I had the target, a letter explained the problem. When I contacted SW I told them this, answered their questions, and they immediately sent me a shipping label. They fixed it free and paid shipping both ways.

It will not hurt the gun to shoot it, and then you will know how far off it is. Sometimes a little cooperation gets cooperation in return.

Update! I went on the SW website and did a live chat, which it was like texting on the phone you couldn't see each other, but he also said that the barrel has a + or - tolerance and once the barrel is screwed on the rear and front sights are aligned and that I needed to go out to a range and go 10 yards from the target same yardage SW uses and shoot gun to see if it aligned, if not I could send it in with the label. But here's my thinking, as many SW revolvers that I have looked at in the past month trying to decide which one to buy and all of the barrels was dead center, why in haven't I seen a barrel off center if there's a tolerance. Another question when they screwed the barrel on and it is off center, seeing that the front sight mount is part of the barrel, when they pin in the front sight wouldn't the sight be canted in the same direction of the barrel, If so the sight would be off? If the sight is pinned into the sight mount that is part of the barrel and the barrel is canted how do they align the rear and front sight without bending the sight, which I couldn't see the sight being bent? Just frustrated

That's why I don't buy new SW revolvers anymore.

Just got checked with SW via Live Chat on the status of my revolver getting warranty repair on canted barrel. The rep said the SW Gunsmith replaced the barrel, Hammer, Trigger and Rebound. I told the rep WOW, I just sent it in for a canted barrel and his reply was that the gunsmith must have saw something he didn't like in the components, so he replaced them! I'm glad I didn't take it out to the range. It could've been a disaster. But the rep said the revolver is heading to the mail room to process and it could be 5-7 business days. I will receive a email and a tracking number when it ships.
