Default Finding Endurance Package parts

Good afternoon,

I've got a 27-5 that needs a cylinder, yoke, and possibly a hammer (there's a stainless one on it now).

1. With the radiused stud package, I looks like the hammer was relieved on the left side to accommodate so an earlier hammer wouldn't work, correct?

2. With the change in the yoke retention system, does a newer yoke need to be used? The slot in later yokes appears to have a convex (right word?) portion rather than a straight cut like earlier ones.

This project I picked up is proving to be a little tougher to finish than I had anticipated.

1. Correct w/o making the modification.

2. It has a V shaped groove, not convex. You can modifiy an old yolk groove. But in reality, the yoke retention system is not as good as the old straight groove; it was mainly for production speed, not an improvement. Some newer guns with the YRS have the yoke slip forward when using a speed lloader.

Thanks for the info.

Can an old yoke and screw be used instead of the new set up or is there more to it?

One small problem, the new 'yoke retention' screw has a pointy plunger and spring in it. Therefore the screw is larger diameter than the old style screw.

If the frame had the new 'yoke retention system', the threaded hole in frame and the thru-hole in the side plate are too large (#8 x 36) for the standard yoke screw which is only a #5 x 44.

An 8 x 36 is not a hard screw to find from gun smith suppliers.

Or you can use the new 'yoke retention system' screw with a fixed rod inserted in place of the plunger and spring.

Or if you have an old model Ruger single action trigger or cyl bolt screw, it's the right thread and only threaded right under the cap with a long un-threaded shaft you can fit to the old style yoke square cut groove. The cap needs to be filed to a slightly smaller diameter by chucking and spinning it in a power drill.

Thanks Hondo. I think I'll just keep an eye out for a newer set-up to get this 27-5 put back together. I do have a newer stainless yoke and cylinder set-up but I think I'd prefer to keep it all blue.
