Default New ejector rod showed up pre bent

Just got a new ejector rod from Midway, in the mail. Put this thing on the revolver, just to make sure everything looked good. It's a little long, and needs fitting. No surprise there, but the cylinder could be opened with a small push on one or two cylinders. Not so for the other cylinders. So I gave the thing a spin, and it looks to be a bit bent. Rolling it across a flat surface, it seems good. And the internal rod seems to work okay. It takes close inspection to notice the bend. Sending a nine dollar part back to Midway, looks like nine bucks worth of aggravation. Since Midway doesn't seem to have any more in stock anyway. Is this thing useful as a spare? There's plenty of threads showing how easy they are to straighten. How perfect do they have to be? Once I fit this thing, or try to straighten it, I own it.

The rod is not bent. It is crooked at the threaded connection. You have to straighten it tightened on the cylinder as an assembly. Brownell's has a jig for that with an indicator. Take it to a gunsmith that has the jig. It can be straightened in about 5 minutes by someone who knows what's up.

Thanks Toolguy! If it doesn't cost much to have it done, I'll get someone on it. Finding a competent local gunsmith is on my wish list anyhow. Since I have other revolvers that need attention. This just gives me an excuse to escalate that search. Anybody have any recommendations for a good revolver smith in North East Texas?

They only have to be perfect enough NOT to scrape on the hole the ER rides through. There is no such thing (or at least I've never witnessed one) as a 100% perfectly straight ER. Most will have a very slight wobble but function just fine. If they exhibit scraping or resistance when being pushed then they do need to be straightened out. There are a few good videos and I think Midway's Larry Potterfield still has his up and running showing how to do this.

Thanks chief38, that is some good news! On my others, there's not any noticeable wobble, as I spin the cylinder. This one has just the slightest amount. My concern is that, when I shorten this thing to fit properly. That I'll have issues with it being uneven when opening the release, tight on some, loose on others. Or something similar. Then, having altered it, I wouldn't be able to exchange it. But since I opened this thread, I've learned that, after shipping costs, my total refund would be three bucks. So I'm going ahead and try to fit this one, since it's not worth the trouble to return it.

Well, it took a couple of hours to get it right, since I had to fully assemble/ disassemble each time it needed tweaking. But the little guy is replaced, and the end is de burred, polished, and looking good. I even polished the inside. I have to say it works perfectly, and looks more professionally finished than the old one. I'm quite pleased, and certain that anyone that I paid to install this part wouldn't have taken the time to do the job to this level. That's pretty much the same reason I work on all my own stuff when possible. And it's you guys that made it possible! All the actual instruction came from a thread I started a few weeks back, about doing the same project on a different revolver. The confidence that this particular part would work came from this thread. Thanks guys you've saved me some money, and at the same time I've learned something useful! I love this place, you guys are the best.
