Default 2206 FTF issue

A while back a forum member generously posted a very precise disassembly procedure for the 422/2206. Thanks for that. I am awaiting delivery of a barrel wrench and plan to take my 2206 T apart to try to remedy the following.
Using Federal target ammo(bulk 325 cartridge box), about 5% of the time the firing pin dents but doesn't fire the chambered round. Most times I can eject, rotate the cartridge and it will fire. I sent samples to Federal, they determined the depth of the firing pin indentation wasn't deep enough to cause ignition. I haven't tried any other brands of ammo, but no issues with the same cartridges in other firearms.
I am thinking either some built up gunk is restricting the firing pin from full travel or, the pin is short or the hammer spring is weak.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Or have any suggestions as to what I should look for?

Thanks

I would suspect one of two problems.......... If you are getting light hits then something is obviously hindering the firing pin from delivering a full power blow to the primer.

1) You could have gunk, powder residue and debris in firing pin hole. If when you clean the gun you get oil and or solvent in there it will make a mess of things. I would suggest disassembling it, a good cleaning (no oil) and see how that works.

2) At the same time you have it apart, I would also suggest carefully inspecting the firing pin, spring and hole. Replace any worn or possibly damaged parts.

Thanks chief38, won't know until I get it apart but I suspect a thorough cleaning will improve the firing pin strike. Bought this pistol used, no barrel wrench with it so I don't think it's been detail stripped for some time.
