Default I have a dream

I'd like to get a new 629 in stainless and have the S & W custom shop do the revolver combat action job and polish the stainless. Has anyone seen a finished polished SS from the factory custom shop? Do I have to buy from the LGS, have it sent to them, and back to the factory? I asked one lgs and that's what they said; seems silly to send it to and from twice?? Thanks in advance

When the firearm is sent back to you from S&W upon completion of the work, it is sent directly to you, not the LGS.

I can't imagine any way to have it leave the factory customized like that initially, unless you had connections high up.

Yes that makes sense thanks but I would think if I were to buy it from the lgs I could order the custom work at the same time and have the box marked accordingly? Is it not done that way?

Your lgs does not and cannot order direct from factory. He goes thru a distributor.

I would call the factory and ask to speak to the Performance Center with your plan, and find out how the process would work. The factory may very well require it to make two round trips to have the work done on a new gun.

Some large distributors get custom configurations from S&W, but not for orders of only one firearm.

You could polish it yourself. I don't think the PC action job is worth much, to be honest. I can do my own that's a lot better. So can a lot of revo smiths.

Hmm. Thanks everyone for the input. Doesn't sound as if the performance center is up to standard. The pics on site make it look like the polish is as good as if not better than Colts BSS finish?? I was familiar with the older standards but they were inferior way back when. I was hoping things got better; idk if its worth the effort let alone the $. Action, used to be the best! now the factory action jobs at a premium of $265 is the best available? I'm not convinced anymore. What a shame
