Default CYLINDER CHAMFERING CUTTER

Thinking about buying one of these tools. You can buy one cutter and different pilot bits for different calibers.
I have a custom PPC gun with a chamfered cylinder, and it makes loading WC ammo a breeze. I now have several more wheelguns in several calibers. I would like to chamfer all of them. Anyone here actually do this themselves? Other than gunsmiths, that is.
But even to the smiths and anyone else, is this a simple do-it-yourself project?

Thanks.

Yes, it is a simple DIY project. One thing to be aware of though. Take the extractor off first unless it's a moonclip only gun like a 625. If it can use speedloaders or loose rounds you don't want a big chamfer on the extractor or it won't extract. Just a small edge break on the extractor to remove the sharp edge.

This tool also recuts the muzzle crown with the correct pilot. Most guns need that done to shoot tight groups.

Good info, on taking off the extractor first. I do plan to watch videos on the Brownells website and possibly some on you tube too.

Default Brownells Chamfering Tools

I've bought & used them. I bought pilots to do the cylinder opening (charge holes) & ones for the muzzle/crown.

When I did the charge holes it was hard to keep it smooth & it wanted to leave ripples. Those can be smoothed out with the lapping tool & some abrasive grit though. (I later bought some 600 grit compound, not shown.)

Good advice on not chamfering the extractor. For some reason S&W doesn't do that as every pistol the factory has done included the extractor. I took mine out before I chamfered.

I've used mine more for cleaning up the muzzle/crown than the charge holes. While it's made more of a difference in accuracy in some more than others, I like the look of a chamfered muzzle much better than the abrupt opening.

Don't skimp on the cutting oil either, use a firm but steady pressure & clean the cutter (metal shavings) frequently. Go slow, you can always remove more later.
