Default Re-barreling J and K frames

Hello there. I have been looking for a source of factory take off barrels for a couple of Smith and Wesson revolvers. First is a 64-5 with a 4" bull barrel. Looking for a 5", or 6+". I also have a 642-2 Airweight that I am also looking for a longer barrel for. I have seen a M60 Chief's Special with a 5" from the factory. Any insight would be great. I have looked at Numrich and also Gunbroker and have a few leads. Thank you.

Over the years I've seen many take-off barrels on ebay and GB. I have purchased a few for Chief's Specials and K Frames for very little and they were in pretty descent shape. You might try there or at some local Gun Shows - there are usually parts guys there selling their stuff.

There are factory K frame 5 and 6" barrels, but you will not find one in stainless that matches the frame contours of your particular model 64 (any standard or tapered style), or it will have a high Target style front sight (model 66).

The 5" barrel model 60 (the -18) has a newer multi-piece barrel design that may not fit your model 642; others here will know for certain. This model was made for about 2 years with a 3" barrel that will fit, if you can find one.

It may be easier to find a complete gun with the barrel length you want. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Picked up a 4 inch barrel for a 64 on ebay at a decent price recently.
