Default Pre model 10 hammer

I have a 5 screw pre model 10 that has had the hammer bobbed. Its from 1954 to 55. Which hammers will interchange? Model 10-7 maybe? Also if I buy a used hammer off of ebay/numrich etc what are the chances of it being drop in without any work, assuming its correct and in good condition. Thank you in advance.

I've had pretty good luck w/K frame hammers and triggers being operational as drop-ins, but I'm gathering from my readings here that it's kind of a carpshoot. I think my course of action would be to buy an appropriately-aged hammer and give it a try. Use the double-action sear from your present hammer (be careful - there's a little bitty spring under it), and I think confidence will be high for acceptable function. If not, then a 'smith's consult would be indicated. Please do keep us updated.

Good luck,
Larry

A pre-model 10 from '54-'55 would likely still have had a "speed hammer" with a service-width spur as pictured below. A 10-7 hammer may work but it won't have this older style hammer spur.

That would have been my suggestion. Look on eBay. Usually some hammers are to be found there.
