Default Bodyguard 380 dilemma

I bought a bodyguard 380 some time ago because I wanted something as a pocket carry when nothing else would fit what I was wearing. When I first got it, the gun suffered from numerous light strikes. I sent it back to Smith and they said they replaced the slide. This seemed to work better, but I was still getting light strikes to the tune of about 2 per box of fifty. This to me was unacceptable, so I brought it back to the store I bought it from, and he showed me that he had the same problem with his and replaced the hammer spring with a heavier one.
So, I did the same, and sure enough never had a light strike again. However, I find myself hating the gun because it's so hard to squeeze the trigger sometimes I think it's stuck or something.

My question is should I go back to factory weight spring, send it back to Smith or accept the fact that now it's reliable and put up with such a heavy trigger? I do NOT do my own gun smithing.

Send it back to Smith and ask for your money to be refunded. I once had the same Bodyguard as you describe, and I sent it back to the factory 3 times for FTF or FTE, and each time it came back with the same problem. On the fourth trip back I asked for, and received, a full refund including sales tax. I have since bought Ruger LCP's, Taurus TCP's and Keltec K3at's and have had nary a problem. YMMV

I would not carry a firearm for self defense that was too hard to shoot accurately or had ANY misfires routinely. Shuz is right in that if they can not make it work properly they should refund you money in full.

Not my intention to side track you here, but you might consider a 5 or 6 shot .38 Special (Chief's Spl.) or (Colt Dick Spl.) as a replacement. IMHO the model S&W 60-7 is the clear winner (1990 - 1996 manuf.) or a 3rd. Gen. DS if weapon is to be carried any method but pocket. You will not find better reliability, more bang for the weight and size, and sheer ease of operation. Again, just my opinion but to me a .380 is not a great SD round. In the proper loading (Buffalo Bore Heavy or Speer GD) the .38 Spl. Revolvers are quite capable and "not your father's .38" with the excellent loading available today.

I think the BG is junk. I bought one, took it home, dry fired it a few times, and then sold it. I bought a Custom Ruger LCP ( no longer made ) for carry around the farm. It has a much better trigger, and has shot every time thus far. I still carry a .45 when off of my property.
