Refinish damaged 'Cokes"
Recently I asked DWFAN to take a look at a set of "Cokes" that I had acquired some time ago. They had a significant nick at the toe as well as several bumps and scratches as well as needing to have the checkering refreshed. He took the job for, what I felt was, a reasonable fee and this is the result. In effect the stocks look like what they might have when they were new. Anyway, to say that I'm pleased would be an understatement. I would not hesitate to have Paul work on just about any work related to any Smith stocks, he is a wizard. I apologize for my somewhat amaturish photos!

Sorry. I failed to take pictures, at least some where you could really see the damage, beforehand. If I ever have Paul do work again I will be sure to be careful and do before and afters as he is really a magician!

Very nice. Paul did a set for me earlier this year and I absolutely got my moneys worth.

I HAVE TO ROLL WITH chief38, ON THIS ONE. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH MORE VALID ASSESSMENT OF THIS CRAFTSMAN'S WORK, IF WE COULD HAVE SEEN WHAT HE WAS PRESENTED WITH, WHEN HE AGREED TO TAKE ON THE JOB.......
THAT BEING SAID, THESE STOCKS LOOK FACTORY FRESH TO ME.....

heater1,
You might ask DWFAN if he has unrestored pictures of your grips. Many who do restorations take pictures just as a routine when they are performing repair and restoration work.

Excellent! Sure are some talented woodworkers on here. Gaitorbaiter redid some butchered cokes for me. They felt too nice not to use. The K frames pictured might get the same treatment some day, though they are badly chipped. Yours turned out pristine.

Way back then, these were just cheap, easily replaceable stocks. Mess a pair up, just spend a few bucks for replacements.
Folks dumping the wood target stocks (which were not known for comfort) for rubbers was pretty common back in the 80's.

When a product is CURRENT and in ABUNDANCE there is no sense of collectability or value. No one today would give much thought of hacking up a set of Pachmeyer's because they know they can just go out to their favorite G store and get another set. Now if down the road they are discontinued and deemed valuable, well you get the picture.
Back in the day they were nothing special. If we only knew!
