Who has tried these sights? Are they worth it? I'm thinking of putting them on my 2.75 inch 69.

I have a set of Meprolites on my 686+, however I have the set designed for the removable pinned front sight, rather than the set intended to replace the insert in the integral front sight. The rear sights are however the same.

I'd need the insert on the Model 66 on the left, while you can replace the whole front sight with the pinned sight on the Model 686+ on the left. There are pros and cons. Replacing the front sight gives a smoother profile that comes out of the holster cleaner, and may be more durable. On the other hand, the insert style can be used with either style front sight.


You'll need to drill out the retaining collar and screw to remove the old sight, and then snug the new collar onto the new sight and then peen the center of the screw to lock the collar on to the screw.

The sights work very well and give a good three dot sight picture in day light as well as in the dark. However, if you prefer a black on black day light sight picture you can use a black sharpie to ink over the top of the white inserts, and get a black on black sight - with the added benefit that in low light conditions the tritium will still show through the thin layer of black ink, giving you a fully functional night sight. Or you can split the difference and leave the front sight white, for a dot front sight with black rear sights. And if you don't like the ink, a little alcohol while will take it back off.



Whether it's worth it or not, depends on how much you value a night sight on our revolver. I prefer my self defense handguns to have night sights, particularly for armed citizen concealed carry where you are less likely to have a bat belt full of things like a tactical light and/or may not have time to employ it in a true, sudden self defense situation.

Armed citizens are not generally going into places looking for bad guys like LEOs, so the EDC needs are very different and a tritium night sight is, IMHO, the sweet spot for shooting an assailant in lowlight conditions where you may not have a tactical light and/or no time to employ it.
