Default Grip Repair Question?

I just bought a m10, 4" pretty grungy. When taking apart to clean up one grip panel didn't want to come off. I took wooden
dowel and gave it a tap from back. It popped right out but the
grip washer was rusted to frame and medallion rivet popped
through washer leaving it in frame. I squirted in with Kroil and
got it loose. I now have the medallion end with mushroom end
that won't pass through hole in washer. I am thinking of using
Dremil to remove "mushroom" on rivet shaft and attempting to
restake it. What do you normally back up the medallion with
when staking? Should I center drill rivet to help it expand? Never
done this before, advice from someone who has appreciated.

To make it look original, cut the medallion post in half with dermal cut-off wheel / this way you will retain the rivot head.
Use a two-part epoxy inside the washer and reassemble. If you are careful and have a steady hand, no glue residue will show on outside and it will never come apart. I use jb weld

File the mushroomed end flush with the rest of the pin so it will pass through the hole on the "washer" (stock circle).

Do not attempt to re-stake, too easy to make the wood to split if your too heavy handed, instead.. put some epoxy glue on the underside of the washer and put it on the medallion stud.

Use enough epoxy so it fills the area on the underside of the washer for it to adhere to the grip and embed the medallion stud.

After it has setup overnight, you can gently peen the stud end to make it look like it's been staked.

update: VM is a faster typist then me... I like his idea of cutting the post and gluing the rivet head on to get the look... sneaky clever.
