Default Model 64-5 38 Special barrel replacement Question

Hello there. I am looking at my bull barrel model 64 and although the barrel shoots straight it is alas 1/4" too short for me to keep it this way and stay in the good graces of the Law of the land. I have been looking at all sources of replacement barrels from 38S&W 5" to 6" full lug model 14 barrels. I can get by with just 4.25" which some of the new Smiths are Brownells has some PPC barrels made by Douglas that look pretty sweet. Then I read about folks using Colt Python barrels as well so any ideas or feed back would be appreciated. Local Smiths in my area with barrels to fit would say it will cost me $3-400 to do I nice job. Thank you.

I've been trying to find a nice S&W 38 special with a 5" plus barrel and are very hard to find. Lots of prohibs with 4" and under but sigh don't have 12.6. Did I mention Canadian gun laws are really STUPID!!!!!!

I'm not familure with Canadian laws but but for $3-400, perhaps you should try to trade/sell the gun and put the money towards one that works for you right out of the box. A nice 686 in 5" maybe?

Yes thank you for your feedback. Anything under 4" is Grandfathered and therefor prohibited class and is the market for these weapons is non-existant lest you have the proper class weapon license. Makes little sense as the Mounties had Model 10 with specially ordered 5.5" barrels which I have never seen. Being that the service revolver for most of the free world were made with 4" barrels the Gov't made sure they were not going to have them in wide use among the "free people" of the Land. Anyone out there wish to make a trade for the Heavy Bull Barrel 4" 64-5 shoot me an email. That is for anything with a 4.25"+ bore barrel of course. I like 45 Colts and 45 acp 1917's or the like New Service or Smith and Wesson models.

I have indeed since been looking for a longer barreled Model 10 or 586 or 686 with the 4.25" or 5" wherever I can find them. Have a few sets of grips for the peice as the Pachmyers the came with it were nice for shooting heavy loads but weren't the best looking. Thank you.
