Good evening folks. Just starting a thread so that this info shows up in the search function.

I have a lot of revolver grip panels and just a few too many screws. So, I went to the hardware store to solve a couple problems this weekend...with a bit of success. Needed screws for Barami Hip Grips and a couple Jay Scott grips. Both take something other than the standard S&W grip screw and both are damned near impossible to find labeled as such online.

Through some trial and error, found that that the Jay Scott grips take a 4-48 machine screw just under 1" in length. Had to cut them down to size with a Dremel.


Barami Hip Grips take a 4-40 machine screw just a bit over 1." It is about 1 and 1/16th of an inch.


Found both of these screw with the help of Pete at Blackhawk Hardware (ACE) in Charlotte, NC. He was very helpful. Also, they have a section for "Gun Screws." Look like there was all sorts of good stuff.

Tell me again the part about walking into a hardware store and finding someone to help you that is knowledgeable about gun screws and they stock them. Adult bedtime stories are really neat. Only kidding!! That is awesome. I'd be leery of trying that around here for fear, if I could find one to assist me, the brain dead clerk would call the police. Really, thanks for posting. You're right. It would never happen that way at Lowe's or Home Depot...but Blackhawk Hardware in Charlotte, NC is a "real" hardware store. They've got competent people stationed every couple aisles to assist. Really, I was surprised by the assistance and "gun screws" section. An added bonus, is the free popcorn for customers. Good stuff.

That would be because Blowes and Home Creapo aren't hardware stores. They are HOME IMPROVEMENT stores. Unless it is to repair or beautify your home, they don't carry it.

REAL hardware stores are getting very few and far between these days. In the Seattle area they had a small chain called McClendons. THAT was a REAL hardware store. Just about any nut, bolt, screw, washer, plumbing part, fitting, or any other kind of hardware you can think of, they had it. I miss them VERY badly.

The closest thing I've found here in Spokane is Ace hardware. They are OK, but the stores are small so they are somewhat limited in what they can stock. I sure wish McClendons would open a store around here.
